Superoxide dismutase

Description

Mammalian superoxide dismutase (SOD) exists in three forms, of which the mitochondrial SOD (mtSOD) is a 93 kD Mn homotetramer, in contrast to the cytosolic and extracellular Cu/Zn forms of SOD. Superoxide anion (O2-β€’) is a major reactive oxygen species (ROS) which is dismutated by SOD to H2O2.
