Superoxide dismutase

Description

Mammalian superoxide dismutase (SOD) exists in three forms, of which the Mn-SOD occurs in mitochondria (mtSOD, SOD2; 93 kD homotetramer) and many bacteria, in contrast to the Cu-Zn forms of SOD (cytosolic SOD1, extracellular SOD3 anchored to the extracellular matrix and cell surface). Superoxide anion (O2•-) is a major reactive oxygen species (ROS) which is dismutated by SOD to oxygen and H2O2.

Application in HRR

Preparation of 5000 U/mL stock solution (dissolved in H2O)
  1. Weigh 2 mg of superoxide dismutase.
  2. Dissolve in 1134 µL H2O.
  3. Divide into 30 µL portions into 0.2 mL Eppendorf tubes.
  4. Store frozen at -20 °C in the desiccator.
