Dear MC members: We thank many of you for registering for the MitoEAGLE Summit with associated MitoEAGLE Training School scheduled for July 2020. However, the world-wide trends of COVID-19 require to take decisions responsibly and quickly. We expect professional sport teams and artists to stop assembling crowds, we agree that Japan should delay the Olympic games. Do professional scientists send a wrong signal to the public, by keeping our scientific meetings on schedule for this summer? As scientists we have a specific responsibility to be proactive. Failure of postponing meetings today, may tomorrow be seen as a signature of ignorance: uncertainty and unpredictability give strong reasons to act cautiously for all types of organizations. https://www.mitoeagle.org/index.php/MitoEAGLE_Summit_Obergurgl_2020 : At the present uncertain COVID-19 situation, we hesitate to send out further invitations to potential speakers for the MitoEAGLE Summit or remind more MC members to put the July MC meeting on their agenda. Neither can we predict, if July 2020 will be back to normal, nor can we expect at present, to receive commitments from potential participants and students to register now. Even in the hope that after three months COVID-19 will be defeated, we may expect a reduced level of participation at our scheduled final MitoEAGLE event. We were in contact with the COST Officers, and received the following message: .. You have two options: 1. Keep the dates and wait to send the official invitations once the COVID-19 situation is clearer and then eventually postpone the event; 2. Change the dates now as you are proposing, but still wait to send the invitations, just in case. .. Kind regards,

Federica

Dr Federica Ortelli | Science Officer COST Association | Avenue Louise 149, 1050 Brussels | Belgium As a reminder: Our COST Action started on 2016-09-01 with a duration of 48 months. Postponing the MitoEAGLE Summit from July to August would not make sense at all, but postponing to a realistic date would require a decision by the COST officials, to prolong our final grant period timespan. Therefore, I would like to know your thoughts, as a basis for contacting the COST officials again and for disseminating your decision to all COST Action MitoEAGLE members.
